Linux : Font smooting on Ubuntu Hardy
This page last changed on Jul 25, 2008 by Kees de Kooter
Introduction
Because of legal issues and fears of violating patents by default the subpixel hinting for aLCD panels is turned off in Ubuntu. Although the fonts look pretty good to my eye I still decided to try to improve it. With great success! My fonts look really smooth now. Below are the methods I found that help achive this.
Worked for me
sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config
Choose Autohinter / Always / No
